New HQ for Merck Serono

The new headquarters of Merck Serono in Geneva, Switzerland, a world leading company in the biotechnology field, is composed of both new and existing buildings.

The new six-storey buildings, which cover an area of just under 463,000 square feet, are roofed with a Kalzip aluminum standing seam system and form a long block that is connected by ‘streets’ and ‘squares’. This provides employees of Merck Serono with a campus like area in which they can exchange ideas and hold informal discussion.

These campus areas are flooded with light thanks to an arched glass roof and fully glazed façade that create bright, inviting office with far-reaching view.

The three existing industrial unit buildings are protected by historical preservation orders. In line with the order, the choice of materials for the renovation successfully combine the traditional with the modern.

A perfect example of how contemporary design can harmonize respectfully with preserved industrial architecture.
